looking for community during the week? check out our deeper groups!

doing life together

We believe that the Christian life is best lived in community. That's why we have Deeper Groups. A Deeper Group is a gathering of 8-12 people who meet in homes (or on Zoom) on a weekly basis to deepen their friendships, their knowledge of God, and their impact on the world. Whether you live on the island or the mainland, want to meet in-person or online, or are looking for a group that caters to a specific community llike our LGBTQ+ folks, we’ll help you find the group that’s right for you! Email Pastor Julia Riley for more info!

looking for ways to serve your neighbor? check out these volunteer opportunities at central and around galveston!

social services team

Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday morning, we open up the church for folks to shower, do laundry, have a meal, use the computer, get help on the computer, and meet with some of our partners in the community. We can always use help in the kitchen, running the shower list, helping folks on the computer, or just hanging out and building relationships! If you have more questions or would be interested in helping out in some capacity, you can reach out to Pastor Michael Gienger.

grace clinic

On Thursdays, from 8 - 11am, Central hosts Grace Clinic. Through partnership with UTMB and St. Vincent’s House, we provide healthcare to our uninsured and underinsured neighbors. If you’re interested in helping out or learning more, email Pastor Michael.

casserole crew

Do you like to cook? We serve a hot meal to food insecure members of our community every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday morning. Almost all of the food comes from members of our congregation! If you are interested in helping provide meals, you can reach out to our kitchen coordinator, Beth.

admin volunteer

Do your skills lie in organization and administration? We could use your help as an office volunteer! Reach out to Beth for more info.

central bike

On Tuesdays, from 10am - 2pm, we run a bicycle repair ministry. Bikes are a vital resource in our community and are always getting flat tires and needing repairs. If you’re handy and have experience working on bicycles or are willing to learn, Joanna always needs assistance. If you’re not into fixing bikes, but would like to donate instead, we are always in need of bike locks, lights, and other parts necessary for repair. Email Joanna Bordelon for current donation needs.

care team

The Care Ministry Team is a support for our congregation whenever extra help or visits are needed. We might visit with a congregant at the hospital or at home to see what support they are currently needing and then provide that support with the help of our pastors. We may give a ride from the hospital, pick up groceries, make food and deliver, sign up on a food train when a baby is born, do some cleaning, watch the kids briefly, pray with the person in need, or just be a listener.  If you have questions or are interested in joining this team, you can reach out to Sandra Miller.

social events team

We believe fellowship and fun are important parts of spiritual life. Which is why we have a Social Events Team dedicated to planning super fun ways for us to meet, in and outside our church building, and just have fun together! We celebrate holidays together, have Charity Trivia events at the brewery, board game nights and more! Are you passionate about party planning? Email Amy Whitecotton about joining our Social Team and help us plan our next event!

mobile food distribution

Once per month, we partner with Moody Methodist Church and the Galveston County Food Bank to distribute thousands of pounds of groceries to hundreds of families. We bag and sort food, register clients, and distribute food to clients’ cars as they come through. This is always on a Monday, from about 3 - 7pm, but the date can sometimes change. You can reach out to Pastor Julia for info about the next mobile distribution event.

see, love, act.

See, Love, Act is a small group for those interested in discussing and implementing steps toward social change in Galveston and beyond. If you’re interested in this group, contact Dawn McCarty.

Our blog, Front Row Central, tells the stories of folks from our congregation. If you have a story to tell, whether you sit in the front row, the very back or watch online, contact Dawn McCarty to share your Central story with us!
