Central is mostly lay- and volunteer-powered, but we also have a small team of part-time and full-time staff dedicated to helping carry out God's vision for Galveston Central Church.
rev. michael gienger (he/him)
co-pastor
Michael is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and was appointed to Central in 2014. He has a B. A. in Religion with a concentration in Christian Ethics from Baylor University and a Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Michael helped to start several organizations and initiatives, including Galveston Housing Plus and Grace Clinic. In 2023, Michael received the prestigious Locke Innovative Leader award from Wesleyan Impact Partners. He has also been nominated as one of Galveston's "Forty Under Forty" and a finalist for Citizen of the Year. He loves his wife, Moriah, cooking, and his dog, Crouton. You will often find him playing drums with the worship band on Sunday mornings.
rev. julia riley (she/her)

Julia is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and was appointed to Central in 2020. She has a B.S. in Communication Studies from University of Texas and a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School at Duke University. Having had a wonderful experience at her own Wesley Foundation on UT campus, Julia is passionate about college ministry and oversees Central College Ministry currently on Texas A & M Galveston's campus. She also serves on the board of the Reconciling United Methodists of the Texas Conference, is a passionate activist for the Disabled and LGBTQIA+ communities and many others, and leads our LGBTQIA+ deeper group. She loves her husband, Austin, reading, taking care of her plants and her cats, Sheldon and Brisa.
ezra bordelon (he/they)
creative worship director
Ezra is a multi-instrumentalist and visual artist and has been Central's worship director since 2017. He has an A. A. in Music from San Jacinto College with focuses on vocal performance, music theory and composition. He oversees Central's music and art ministries, including the volunteer worship band and the occasional choir or tiny orchestra. He regularly leads community art nights and organizes collaborative sculptures and galleries around Central. He also runs Central's social media and oversees the tech team. Ezra is a member of local indie folk duo, The Coastal Service, and performs around Galveston with his bandmate, Austin. He loves national parks, hiking, anime and his black cat, Suki.
amy whitecotton (she/her)
office manager
Amy became Central's office manager in 2024. She has a B.S. in Radiologic Sciences from Northwestern State University and is a registered radiologic technologist and radiation therapist. When she left the healthcare field to homeschool her sons, Amy served on the board of Gulf Coast Christian Home Scholars, Inc. and was the sponsor of a National Beta Club. She loves her husband, Todd, two sons - Cutter and Connor, traveling, all things Disney, and Jimmy Buffett.
chad smith (he/him)
director of children & youth ministries
Chad was hired as Central's youth director in 2020 and took on the role of children's director in 2023. Chad is passionate about creating safe, fun and inclusive spaces for youth in Galveston. He has many years of experience working in local and international non-profit organizations, including Houston, Galveston and Cambodia. He also works part-time for GISD in their after school gardening program, volunteers at Seeding Galveston, and is currently pursuing a degree in nursing at Galveston College. He loves gardening, musicals and dogs, especially his beagle, Emerson.
