pastor's note
This Lent, we’re preaching a series called “Tell Me Something Good.” Lent is a time of preparation and discipline leading up to Easter, so this series strips Jesus’ life and ministry down to their root as a way to remind us how we’re called to live. At their core, Jesus’ teachings are full of love, liberation, mercy, and grace. Despite how they’ve been weaponized, they are meant to be good news for all. If you’d like to follow along with this series outside of just the sermons on Sunday mornings, you can find poetry, a daily devotional, visual art, and more at the “Lent” tab on our website or app.
Here is this week’s Lenten poem:
Unwritten Agreement
We have this unwritten agreement, us members of humanity.
When the toddler at the coffee shop runs round the corner,
when her mom, at the register, looks up in panic,
we, the adults in the room, will pledge,
with quick smiles and silent head nods, to keep watch.
We will lean out of our seats.
We will put down our phones.
We will stand at the ready
to scoop up, to offer words of comfort,
to make silly faces, to keep an eye on the door.
And we will do this,
because we cannot ignore the instinct to care.
We will do this,
because we cannot ignore the child right in front of us.
We will do this,
because love always includes the least of these.
May we work to protect and care for the most vulnerable among us this week.

Lent Book Study
This year during Lent, groups at Central will read Zach Lambert’s book, Better Ways to Read the Bible. In this compassionate guide, Lambert dismantles four common lenses for reading the Bible that lead to harm, then offers four new lenses that promote healing and wholeness. This book welcomes all Christians--regardless of background, doubts, or wounds--to reengage Scripture in life-giving ways.
Go ahead and grab the book from your favorite retailer. If finances are a strain, let us know and we will get you a copy.
